Dr. Sharkey received her DVM, PhD, and clinical pathology residency training at the Ohio State University. She was in small animal primary care practice doing relief work in Ohio and for 2 years in Vermont prior to joining the faculty at Tufts for 5 years. Dr. Sharkey was on faculty at the University of Minnesota for 14 years prior to returning to Tufts again in December of 2017 as Department Chair of Clinical Sciences. Dr. Sharkey continues to provide service as a clinical pathologist and is actively engaged in outreach activities in Massachusetts and Minnesota. Her research interests include evaluating the technical and diagnostic performance characteristics of clinical pathology testing, particularly coagulation, hematology, and cytology. She is the primary editor of the Veterinary Cytology textbook released September 2020. Dr. Sharkey serves on the Hematology Expert Advisory Panel for Siemens corporation. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, and visiting her kids in Minneapolis. She lives in Shrewsbury MA with two other veterinarians, the household has three mixed breed dogs, 4 cats, 9 chickens, a fish, and a snail named Diego.
