Biography Dr. Yankuo Sun is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor at South China Agricultural University (SCAU). He earned his Ph.D. from SCAU and completed joint doctoral training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr.Sun’s research integrates molecular epidemiology, genomic surveillance, and clinical bioinformatics to combat high-consequence swine pathogens. Leading an independent research group equipped with advanced NGS/TGS platforms and high-performance computing clusters, he specializes in the evolutionary ecology and transmission dynamics of viruses such as ASFV, PRRSV, and PEDV. He has pioneered high-throughput metagenomic pipelines for the differential diagnosis of complex clinical co-infections.

To bridge the gap between research and industry, Dr. Sun developed SCAUPIGS (https://www.scaupigs.com/), a bioinformatics platform providing rapid genomic tools for veterinarians. His NGS-based diagnostic systems have been successfully implemented by several major large-scale farming groups in China, providing critical technical support for the prevention and control of major animal diseases.

Currently, Dr. Sun serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) for a National Natural Science Foundation of China project and as a Sub-project Lead (Co-PI) for two National Key R&D Programs focused on ASFV pathogen ecology and intelligent biosafety. He has published 42 SCI papers, with lead-author contributions in Nature Communications, Water Research, and Virus Evolution.
