Dr. Albert Rovira graduated with his veterinary degree at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) in 2000. In 2002, he completed an MS in swine pathology at the same institution.  In 2003 he moved to the U.S. to pursue his PhD on swine disease diagnostics, which he completed in 2007. In 2008 he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota as an assistant professor to work as a food animal diagnostician at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Dr. Rovira was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and to professor in 2023. He has served as Assistant Director and Interim Director of the VDL. His current responsibilities at the VDL include overseeing diagnostic submissions of food animal cases and supervising the molecular diagnostics and sequencing sections of the VDL. Dr. Rovira collaborates on research projects on swine infectious disease with other faculty at the University of Minnesota. He has co-authored 69 peer-reviewed articles and 155 abstracts in professional meetings, and has delivered 58 invited presentations. His research activity is focused on swine pathogens, such as PRRSV, PCV2, PCV3, H. parasuis or M. hyorhinis.
