Dr. Roman Pogranichniy is a Professor at the Kansas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL), Kansas State University, and a veterinarian with advanced training in veterinary microbiology and virology. His research interests focus on viral infectious diseases, their pathogenesis, and the development of new diagnostic and preventive methods for these diseases. His service, research, and teaching responsibilities are closely interlinked. As Section head of Diagnostic Virology and Serology, he is responsible for the isolation, identification, and characterization of emerging and re-emerging viral pathogens, as well as the development of serological and virological diagnostic assays for the laboratory. Establishing ties with fellow scientists is integral to conducting research directed toward understanding the pathogenesis of diseases and developing innovative tools for rapid diagnosis. Additional collaboration with field veterinarians, producers, and researchers fosters the development and evaluation of effective vaccines. Dr. Pogranichniy also serves as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), providing expertise on African swine fever (ASF) and other viral diseases. In the teaching environment, Dr. Pogranichniy shares his knowledge and experience in viral diseases, pathogenesis, and disease prevention. At Kansas State University, his teaching responsibilities include classroom instruction for veterinary and graduate students, conducting workshops and seminars for field veterinarians and producers, and delivering presentations at scientific conferences.
