
Dr. Gang Liu is an Associate Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agricultural University (CAU), a Visiting Scholar at the University of Calgary, Canada, Vice President of the Dermatology Branch of the Beijing Small Animal Veterinary Association, Expert Member of the Qilian Mountain National Forest Park Expert Database, and one of the first board-certified Veterinary Dermatology (Small Animal) specialists recognized by the CVMA.
His research focuses on zoonotic diseases from pets and wildlife. He was the first to report the re-emergence of canine leishmaniasis in Beijing, and his policy recommendations on the disease were adopted by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He successfully developed China's first serological diagnostic kit for Leishmania. He was recognized by the Beijing Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center for his contributions to leishmaniasis research and control. He has been repeatedly invited by the China CDC and Beijing CDC to deliver lectures on the prevention and control of canine leishmaniasis and visceral leishmaniasis. He has published 52 SCI papers as first/corresponding author (One of his publications has been cited more than 150 times), He has applied for or been granted four patents.
He has led nine research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Hebei Provincial Key Research and Development Program, and the CAU Veterinary Teaching Hospital Talent Fund, and has served as Principal Investigator of two sub-projects under the National Key Research and Development Programs of China during the 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans. He serves as Associate Editor of the Atlas of Canine Diseases and as an Editorial Board Member and reviewer for journals including the Chinese Journal of Veterinary Medicine and Frontiers in Immunology.
